**Review for the 15th year anniversary special tasting menu** I've been to Flour + Water multiple times but have never done the tasting menu (and honestly don't think I would if it wasn't for the 15th year anniversary special). I just think it's a lot of pasta to sit through and stomach, and creating an incredible pasta tasting menu experience is, in all honesty, incredibly hard. I've liked the a la carte dishes that I've ordered here in the past. I think their pasta creations are pretty unique, and I like that the pasta is perfectly al dente. There are only a few restaurants in the city that get this right. For a tasting menu, I like the idea of putting their greatest hits over the past 15 years on the same menu - basically you know that there won't be misses on this menu because all the dishes have been tried and true. It's also cool to give people an opportunity to try items that are no longer on the menu, and I definitely liked that aspect of it too. There was nothing on this menu that I have seen before, so it was a complete new experience to me. What I thought about the tasting menu: 1. The first half of the menu was strong, and I didn't like the second half as much (e.g. tortellini en brodo, squid ink corzetti, grano arso cappellacci dei briganti). The tortellini broth was really salty, and the flavor of the soup didn't feel very coherent with the tortellini. The squid ink corzetti and grano arso cappellacci dei briganti were just okay, didn't really stand out to me, but then I was also very full at that point so I'm not sure whether it was a problem with the dishes themselves or if I was just too full to enjoy them. 2. The menu heavily featured similar flavor profiles. A lot of tart, earthy flavors, a lot of mushrooms, etc. The flavors definitely leaned light and refreshing but could've used a little rich and creamy as well. 3. The menu lacked coherence. The nature of a "greatest hits" menu - the dishes weren't really designed to fit on a single menu. It's kind of like choosing the best player for every position on a basketball team, but that's most likely not going to lead to the best team. 4. The dining experience could be paced better. The menu is 11 dishes but only 6 courses, which means that it's by design that multiple dishes would come up at the same time. I think this made more sense for some dishes than others. For example, the last two pasta dishes came out at once, and I'm honestly not sure why, because one of them would just be sitting there getting cold... Also, there was a super long wait in between the courses. Really disrupted the rhythm. That being said, I loved the savory cannoli with caviar, black truffle sformato, taleggio scarpinocc, and dark chocolate budino. I loved that every pasta was perfectly al dente. I also loved that the flavors and ingredients are so unique and you can't find them anywhere else.

Got lucky and snatched a Saturday night resy for 4 people. F+W is currently celebrating their 15 year anniversary and had the greatest hits tasting menu available for $135 pp. Pleasantly surprised they allowed us to do 3 regular tasting menus + 1 vegetarian (we went in thinking we'd all have to opt for the vegetarian option). Portions- perfect for tasting! Did not feel overly stuffed throughout the meal (but food coma kicked in about 45 mins later). I preferred the apps/first couple dishes - so flavorful and delicate. Some of the pastas were not consistently cooked which was a bit disappointing. The dessert was decadent, loved that there was some sea salt flakes to balance it, but they could scale back on the amount. There were some huge chucks. Also wish they would include a piece of pizza bc a nearby table got one and it looked amazing! Overall loved this tasting menu experience and would do it again!

I am not big on Italian food usually since I don't like cheese, but this place was delicious. I loved that they had cheeseless options for the pasta, and I really enjoyed mine! The pasta I ordered is no longer on the menu, but it was the perfect mix of tangy and savory. Would definitely come back to try out their new menu!

My sister was able to nab a reservation here for a Saturday night- definitely glad we got a res, because the wait time was about 1.5-2 hours for those who were walk-ins. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. The menu here changes frequently, so it was more difficult to rely on Yelp reviews for recommendations! We asked our waitress for a few of her current favorites, and she was super happy to help. For 3 adults, we ended up getting 2 appetizers, 2 pastas, 1 entree, and 1 dessert to share. Highly recommend family style, so that you can try a bit of everything. - Arancini: a staple appetizer dish, really delicious and cheesy, just the right amount of seasoning. Our favorite of the 2 appetizers. - Baby rainbow carrots: topped with fava greens and anchovy crisps. - Pork cappellacci: pasta stuffed with pork, topped with greens and diced apricots. Really delicious flavor. **Black trumpet funghetti: everyone's favorite of the evening. This folded pasta was served with a savory mushroom ragu sauce and topped with cured egg yolk, giving the sauce a nice creamy texture. Highly recommend! - Braised pork cheeks: served on a bed of rice. The meat was a tender, fall apart in your mouth type of texture- just a little on the salty side. - Chocolate budino: I LOVE a budino, and this was one of my favorites. This budino was thicker consistency than I expected, topped with espresso whip and flakes of sea salt, which really complemented the chocolate flavor. Overall, the food was fantastic. Service was also incredible- the servers and host were super quick about changing our plates between courses, wiping down any drips/spills on the table, and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine offerings. My sister and I both agreed that the service was comparable to that of a Michelin star restaurant. Definitely hope to be back in the near future.

Came here with a friend to try their pasta tasting menu. The starters were refreshing and offered a nice intro into the tasting. The black truffle sformato was especially tasty, and reminded me of a savory tiramisu with its unique layers and bits of crunch. I enjoyed most of the pasta dishes. However, the tortellini was bland. I also thought the aleppo corzetti was out of place, and it was perhaps my least favorite dish. But this was followed by a delicious servicing of the cacao anolini, which was unlike anything I've had before! We actually ordered a pizza on the side, but it was never brought out to us. Kind of a shame because they looked delicious but the tasting honestly left us too full to eat anything else. Overall, I had a great time at flour + water. It was nice trying different pastas, and I look forward to trying their menu more a la carte next time. Service was great and the interior is nice a cozy. Definitely a place to try out!

My party of 5 arrived at 6:30 on a weekday for walk in and there was about a 30 min wait. Once we were seated, we were blown away by the amazing ambiance and nice vibe inside. It feels very nice and the staff is very attentive! We ordered the sourdough bread and a pizza to share with the table, and everyone in my party ordered a different pasta dish. It was so fun trying everyone's dishes - they were all amazing! The butter that came with the sourdough was the softest ever, and the pizza had a nice crust and good flavor. I got the duck cappelletti as my main dish and it was great! Super unique, with flavors I didn't expect and haven't really had before. A super fun dish to try, I would love to come back and try other items on their rotating menu! Overall highly recommend. A bit if a pricey evening, but my group really enjoyed our time here!

It has taken me too long to visit this gem! My partner and I ordered the 10-course tasting menu for our anniversary (which I am sure changes with the seasons). We were greeted with a two mini ricotta cannoli with salmon roe and ended with a palate cleanser- a citrusy and floral shaved ice. Guys, this wasn't even part of the 10 courses provided with our meal - this was just compliments of the chef (who did an amazing job might I add). Before we made the decision to do the tasting menu- I thought to myself, how many times can one cook pasta? And it turns out chef McNaughton can make enough beautiful dishes to solidify my answer- many times without feeling redundant. Make a reservation in advance and you won't have to wait- this place is stylish and unique. I love the rustic ambiance and simplistic decor. I also took a photo of every plate! (A first for me). This 10 course tasting menu was on 3/28/24 just for reference, enjoy! (Edit: I could only upload 10 of the 12 photos taken)
